Pamplin Media Group - Jottings: How to be a Superhost

2022-07-30 08:16:08 By : Ms. Shirley Lee

I am a professional host with Airbnb, designated as a "Superhost." My personal guests appreciate the same level of consideration in my own guest room, and yours will also. So here's my check list.

Prepare the room: Provide as good a bed as possible. Make up the bed with clean sheets, double pillowcase-wrapped pillow. Provide a water glass, Kleenex, a waste basket, and lamp. Clear off desk-tops and counters so guests can put their stuff down. Dust around windows, clear the cobwebs. Place an extra blanket and pillow in the closet. Special scents are not necessary and may cause allergic reactions so don't bother with them.

Be sure the bathroom is clean. Provide new soaps as well as a towel, washcloth, and a hand towel per person. Provide a night light in the bathroom area. Keep a new toothbrush and toothpaste in your stash, just in case it is needed. A bench, hammock, or chair are helpful to hold suitcases. Over-the-door hooks are handy in the bedroom or bathroom. Long term guests may need a chest of drawers or shelf space in the closet. A D V E R T I S I N G | Continue reading below

Show and tell the guests how to adjust the thermostat or heat, and how to use the shower or tub handles, as they are often unfamiliar styles. Point out an electric outlet suitable for chargers. Share with your guest your usual bedtime and rising time, so they won't find out the hard way that they've overstepped some boundary by disturbing your routines. Ask about food allergies or preferences. Agree on a breakfast plan if that is appropriate.

Can your guests see the TV as well as you can from their seating? Arrange it so that they can. What programs do they usually watch? Is there anything they need?

Before the guest arrives, turn on the lights outdoors and inside the bedroom and bathroom, as they may not know where they are going exactly. When they are packing to leave, remind them of the chargers and bathroom items.

With these practices or routines you will make life more enjoyable for your guest, and easier for yourself.
