A mother who left her newborn child to die in the woods was convicted of murder.

Maliki Keresi's body was found near the coast road in Hayes near Southampton in March 2020.

The autopsy found that the cause of death was "Negligence".

In a trial in the Winchester Criminal Court, it was heard that his 38-year-old mother, Celipa Crecy, wanted an abortion, but the time limit was exceeded when asked in November 2019.

On the afternoon of March 5, 2020, a dog walker found Maliki's body in a dense woodland. The body was wrapped in a blood-stained bath towel.

Keresi told the court that she felt “stressed and frustrated” when she found out that she was 26 weeks pregnant in November 2019 and did not tell her husband.

"I think my life is just chaos," she said.

The court heard that Mr. Crecy, a Commonwealth soldier, left the British army in 2017.

By the end of 2019, the family had lost the right to stay in the UK, did not receive social security benefits, lost military housing, and lived in a small hotel room.

Silipa Keresi claimed that she suffered domestic violence.

The prosecutor said that in the next few months, she was "not involved" in medical and social services.

The court heard how her general practitioner and community midwife services "try many times" to contact her at home and by phone, but she did not attend the prenatal appointment agreed with her.

The court was informed that tests showed that he was severely hypothermic and died within 24 hours of his birth, which was consistent with being abandoned. The autopsy found that the cause of death was "negligence."

Keresi has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced later in the Winchester Criminal Court.
