Hythe's baby died: Mother wanted an abortion, the court heard-BBC News

The court learned that a mother accused of leaving a newborn baby in the woods to die had requested termination of the pregnancy in the early stages of pregnancy.

Maliki Keresi's body was found near the coast road in Hayes near Southampton on March 5, 2020.

His mother Silipa Keresi, 37, from Pylewell Road in Hythe, denied murder and infanticide charges.

The Winchester Criminal Court heard in November 2019 that she had exceeded the time limit for abortion.

The prosecution's lawyer Kerry Maylin told the court that Mrs. Keresi had gone to the clinic to discuss the termination of pregnancy, but was told that she was 26 weeks pregnant-exceeding the legal limit.

She told the court that she looked "obviously uncomfortable" and "leaved in a hurry."

Ms. Merlin said that Mrs. Keresi Fiji has two children living in the UK and two children living in Fiji. In the following months, she was “not involved” in medical and social services.

The court heard how her general practitioner and community midwife services "try many times" to contact her at home and by phone, but she did not attend the prenatal appointment agreed with her.

The juror was told that her colleague who worked at the New Forest Laundry stated that in the weeks before March 2020, she was “pale, tired and lost in thought”.

The court heard that one of them said that she saw a "baby bump" under her clothes, but it disappeared after March 5.

On the afternoon of March 5, a dog walker found Maliki's body in a dense woodland. The body was wrapped in a blood-stained bath towel.

The court learned that the baby's umbilical cord was still connected and there was no sign of injury or suffocation.

The autopsy found that the cause of death was "inattentiveness."

The court heard that tests showed that he had severe hypothermia and died within 24 hours after birth, consistent with being abandoned.

After she was arrested, the police checked the hotel room where Mrs. Crecy was staying and found blood-stained clothes.

Ms. Merlin said that Ms. Keresi was "a mother who knew she was pregnant... and chose not to get engaged."

The prosecutor also claimed that when Mrs. Keresi was found, she said that she was "in a bad situation and stressful in life".

Ms. Merlin added: “She explained that she tried to make the family live well, but since her husband left the British army, she felt a lot of pressure. He served in the Commonwealth army.”
