Dallas (CBSDFW.COM)-Dirk Nowitzki retires after 21 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and the NBA. He will see his No. 41 jersey hanging on the rafters at the American Airlines Center. It’s just time problem.

That time was January 5, 2022, after the Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors game that night.

"Dirk Nowitzki's brilliant career demonstrates his unparalleled loyalty to the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas City," the Mavericks said at a press conference on Friday, November 19.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, coach and former teammate Jason Kidd and team owner Mark Cuban will attend the event as special guests.

Nowitzki, along with Brad Davis (#10), Rolando Blackman (#22) and Derek Harper (#12), became the only Mavericks to hang their jersey on the rafters.

In the 121-112 victory over the Clippers at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 25, 2019, the Dallas Mavericks' No. 41 player Dirk Nowitzki played against the Los Angeles Clippers in the final game. Nowitzki is the only player in NBA history who has played 21 seasons on the same team. In a total of 1,522 games, Nowitzki scored (31,560), played (1,522), starts (1,460), played time (51,368), rebounds (11,489), defensive rebounds (10,021), and field goal attempts. Keep the lead (11,169), hit three-pointers (1,982), free throws (7,240) and blocked shots (1,281). As the 14-time All-Star and the first European-born player to win the MVP (2006-07), Nowitzki led the Dallas Mavericks to their first NBA championship in 2011.

"Dirk is everything to the Mavericks," Cuban said. "First of all, 41.21.1. Now lift his jersey to the rafters. For the Mavericks and Mavericks fans around the world, this is a special day."

All fans participating in the January 5th game will receive Nowitzki souvenirs, including special edition NFTs, commemorative tickets, rally towels and fan clapping.

Early fans can walk in the hall like a museum, which displays special displays from Nowitzki's personal collection, including All-Star and championship rings, jerseys, shoes and memorabilia from his Dallas Mavericks history.

After the game, a jersey retirement ceremony will be held for all fans present to show Nowitzki's greatest moment in the history of the Mavericks in the form of video, music and entertainment.
