Disney Hotel Guests Share Nightmare Situation From Hurricane Lockdown - Inside the Magic

We rode out hurricane Matthew at Pop Centuru. When I saw the long line for the boxed meals, we hopped in the car and headed to Celebration to get supplies at the only little store left open. We also got a great Italian dinner at a restaurant before it closed. Hotel staff handed out flashlights and extra towels before the storm hit. We slept through it and woke up to a beautiful day like nothing had happened. It worked out great, we got caught up on sleep and did some laundry.

I think they are lucky to be fed at all. Fortunate that supplies can even be brought there with a hurricane blowing about.

If it’s so horrible there then go find somewhere else to stay. I’m sure they won’t mind you leaving. Give them a little curiosity . They are trying there best considering what’s going on . Someone should have taught you respect and patience.

I agree! Guests were notified to make sure they had food in their rooms.

Disney is usually great but Pop always has problems. They at one point we’re advising delivery people to park in the fire lanes (illegal). They also put us in a non accessible room when we needed one and our reservation clearly stated we reserved one. The accidently have our room to someone that didn’t need it. Then told us if we wanted to leave for another hotel rec would forfeit our deposit. Just this Disney hotel is always a disaster.

Let me get this straight…So staff are volunteering to work during this, rather than evacuate or hunker town with their families, and people are being ungrateful about their service during a natural disaster? Those who had vacations planned this week could easily have cancelled and not come. Those already there could have left early. We’ve all known about this hurricane for days! I read about one guest at Universal whose stay was Wed-Sunday, and she chose to fly in and shelter today anyway as they couldn’t reschedule their trip. She literally came TO the hurricane. What the heck? We lost out on a cruise during Covid. It happens. Better to be safe! Even the ones legit stuck at the resorts that maybe tried to leave and couldn’t, you still need to be reasonable and patient. It’s so incredibly entitled to be acting this way during a historic natural disaster. People will probably be dying in this, the numbers are already coming in from Cuba. Hundreds are going to lose their homes. People are going to be working around the clock after to repair all the damage. But god forbid someone gets their meal 3 hours late. Give me a break. We’re doomed as a society.

I agree with you, been through many natural disasters. Try living without power and water for 2 months. I had that happen to me twice while on Guam during a major typhoon. People just ran to the eaves of their house whenever it rained with shampoo, soap and towel in hand to take a shower. So many Americans are spoiled.

Amen to that! Trips can be rescheduled, and most travel-related services, and Disney in particular, let’s you cancel your trips with no penalty and full refunds in the event that a hurricane hits.

So glad you made this comment. I couldn’t have said it better. So tired of these entitled whiners. We lived through lots of hurricanes. They all knew it was coming.

I am the mother of a cast member—those crying about not being overprivileged during a hurricane. SIT DOWN! You are useless. While cast mates are doing their best to provide you with services, they have families at home who would go 3 hours without breakfast or entertainment to know their kids are safe. Next time since they can’t do it good enough for you… STAY HOME!

For the person crying for free stuff, you sit down too! Hurricane Ian is a natural disaster, not special effects brought to you by Disney to make your vacation fun. People lost their homes and lives but keep whining about being hungry and not entertained. You are a brat, and your mom failed to raise you right. Sit down. You are useless. While you whine, others around you make the best of a bad situation and care about other human beings. You should honestly be ashamed of yourself.

To Cast members. I am proud of you and how you handled yourself when surrounded by brats and crybabies whose children probably behaved better than the parents. If anyone deserves something, free working cast members do.

To the guests who were kind and thankful to cast members, YOU ROCK!! Thank you.

Amen!!! Right on!!! God bless the cast members and patient guests!! To the rest of you, be a human being and show some kindness instead of complaining and blaming others!

Well said. I couldnt agree more with what you said. Some people are ungrateful no matter what the situation isis.

I noticed both of the twitter posts they referenced were already taken down. My guess is that they heard a LOT of this same type of response to those tweets. “Why are you at Disney during a hurricane?” is such a stupid thing to even have to ask people that it blows my mind anyone is complaining they had to wait for a FREE meal from a volunteer staff…

I seriously had someone on Instagram tell me they’re entitled to be upset when I brought up the bigger picture. Yes, people are entitled to be upset or disappointed by things, but geez! Don’t voice that crap! Think it, don’t say it! Its incredibly insensitive. It’s not discounting someone’s feelings when it’s just facts. It’s facts that people have it way worse than these tourists right now. People need to stop acting so privileged!

Amen! The voice of reason, right here!

Well said! Too many entitled people!!!!

A. “ Disney hasn’t responded to Tina or Lumley” well those are just complaint posts. They are at the hotel—they hopefully already put on their big boy pants and talked to their guest services if they care that much. B. If the mobile order is like regular mobile order they notify you when ready. Don’t head there if they don’t say it’s ready. And whining about the order—my goodness. Some packs probably are higher demand then others. If I have a ready made salad and am waiting for a sandwich to be made, am I really going to make the salad person “wait their turn?” C. Disney even told guests “Guests are strongly encouraged to enjoy food and beverage offerings at the parks and Disney Springs before returning to their Resort hotels. Dining options for Guests staying in our Resort hotels will vary, and in some cases may be very limited.” They aren’t going to call in people if more people then expected are ordering at the same time. People could have grabbed meals/groceries ahead of time

We have been through two hurricanes at Disney. Floyd and Jeanne. They just told you to stay in your room fill a bathtub with water and close the blinds. We had enough common sense to go and get some bread and peanut butter at the store before they closed. You will live. Be smart. Disney is the safest place to stay during a hurricane. Power blinked once and that was it. People seem to be so entitled, take care of me, take care of yourself.

At art of animation, yes long lines for food. But seriously what do people expect? We were evacuated fro fort wilderness cabins. Imagine the guest currently now having thousands others suddenly dropped on same hotel? Cast members are doing their best. Appreciate what we are getting!

I’m at Carribean Beach. All shops including restaurants are closed. Regarding the “Huge Perks” that were reported, Disney should not only allow the tickets to be used at a later date, they should also give free rooms with the tickets. Can’t do anything here, not eve eat!!

We are at pop and didn’t wait no 3 hours. The staff did their best to get meal boxes or a fast add they were made. Yes some people were super picky that’s why they waited 3 hours I’m sure.

You chose to vacation during hurricane season. Why does Disney owe you a free hotel room in the future ? They can’t control the weather.

This is what vacation insurance is for, yes? I would understand people being stuck if there was no notice at all, but we’ve known about this hurricane for what feels like months (probably just days, but still). I’m also pretty sure every reservation made this time of year mentions it’s hurricane season and no refunds will be given.

You bought a ticket that can be used at a later date but you are currently staying at the hotel you paid for. Parks will open up probably tomorrow. You are not entitled to free hotel rooms.

So entitled! Please give us a break! People are dying! Houses destroyed. Lee and Charlotte Counties are totally off the grid. Why don’t you be thankful for what you have! We evacuated from our home on the east coast of FL, and are staying at a Disney property. They (many volunteers to work) have been great!! Food , water, things for the kids… Please, I’m so sorry it took you 3 hours to get your food!!! Have some feelings for your fellow human beings and don’t be so entitled!

Everything closed???? Must not be looking to hard! I’m at a Disney property, and have plenty of food. Yes, had to wait, but patience please…. Think about the volunteer cast members working to keep you safe!! This is a natural disaster and you want free rooms too????? Can you say entitled???

We are at pop and didn’t wait no 3 hours. The staff did their best to get meal boxes out as fast as they were made. Yes some people were super picky that’s why they waited 3 hours I’m sure.

So let me get this straight… the CMs are working for free or just volunteered to work? Either way nobody should be angry over getting food late when there is a hurricane approaching.. why didn’t they get other food supplies ahead of time knowing this kind of thing could happen? If Disney is telling people to get on the mobile app and order breakfast this way it’s because they don’t want you standing in a huge line waiting to order your food. Disney doesn’t wanna deal with all these people standing there telling them what they want to eat it’s better to do something like this on a mobile app, But obviously doing it that way with all those people in the hotel is going to cause issues perhaps Disney could have said if you are in the building five or something like that you know order your food now and if you’re in building six and you’re in these rooms order your food at 12 o’clock or something maybe there could’ve been a better plan put together but don’t get mad at the cast members the ones that are for filling the orders are not the ones at fault for what Disney is telling people to do and really these people should’ve definitely brought food supplies. I know thats the first thing I would’ve done but some people are just entitled and spoiled I’m sure these cast members much rather be at home with their families then there serving people!

Complaining because staff “working during a natural disaster” are taking too long delivering take out food to your room “in a freaking hurricane”??? Some people need to be left to starve.

Love the foresight from the poster who in previous hurricanes bought bread and peanut butter. Who goes to Disney without granola bars? No one would starve waiting for food for three hours.

It’s a HURRICANE. And you’re complaining about food?? People lost their houses. We don’t know if people died yet in Florida.

We are at Disney also. Except for delay in ensuring we could extend our stay we have had outstanding support from staff. We went to the Marketplace and bought food not needing to be cooked. Also on Tuesday we got sandwich food at Target. The staff who volunteered to stay with us thru this event have met our every request and have been outstanding. We also ordered the bagged lunches but did not have to wait more them 1hr. Considering how many people were housed at WDW, the unavailability of deliveries by outside services, I am amazed at how much Disney has accomplished.

Tina and Lumley….TOO BAD!!! Some people in Florida have lost their home, possessions and maybe their lives and you can’t get food for a day to stuff your face. I was at Pop Century and felt very fortunate to have a SAFE place to stay. Stop your whining

Privileged much?!? Folks put themselves in harms way to serve you. They were doing the best they could.

We were at the parks leading up to the hurricane, plenty of warning was given to make sure guests had everything they needed before shelter in place order was given. This is on the guests, not the resorts.

Currently staying at one of the “value” hotels: All-Star Movies. I don’t recognise the criticism at all: cast members risking their lives to go to their places of work to look after us ungrateful tourists! The are doing a great job. Fed and watered. Dry and a safe room to shelter in. Even entertainments for the kids in the lobby area. Great job being done in difficult circumstances.

Seems as if some people weren’t happy with the way food was distributed at the resorts, they had to wait- even hours. I feel that under the circumstances the Disney pepper did a wonderful job in caring for their guests. So you had to wait to eat, inconvenienced, You’re safe!!! Thank God!! A big thank you to Disney, we’ll done.

A bunch of entitled PIGS! GTFOH with your whining! GOD BLESS THOSE WHO CHOSE TO STAY AND HELP I am so sorry for the decent people who have to put up with crybabies like this! For God sakes people, it’s a Hurricane. Sadly, some folks will lose everything, some even their lives. So, you got fed late, but did you lose your house? Your friends and family? Please just be quiet.

My son works at Disney. They volunteer their time to help out. This year was better than the last. During the last hurricane, guests complained about the service they received from the cast members. As my son explained, “these waiters are doing their best….they’re not waiters, but lifeguards!” The guests responded with better manners after that.

It was a hurricane!!! The CM’s were making sure guests were safe, be thankful for that!! If you can’t survive without eating for 3 hours, maybe you should have had food in your room like they suggested!!! Such ungrateful people nowadays. Shameful.

Different registers putting different number orders. Register 1 has order numbers in the 300s, register 2 has order numbers in the 800s. I’m sure they were going by time being entered. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out, duh.
