Bachelor Nation fans know Blake Moynes from Seasons 16 and 17 of “The Bachelorette.”

During his time on the shows, we were introduced to Blake as a wildlife manager and he’s still working in environmental conservation, including starting his own nonprofit organization called the Mowgli Moynes Fund.

Blake’s organization supports animal education and awareness and funds wildlife conservation organizations and charities.

And now, Blake just took to Instagram to share an important message with his hundreds of thousands of followers after coming across an injured seagull on his way home from the gym.

Blake shared that he lives near a harbor, and as he was driving home near the harbor, he saw an injured seagull that was likely either hit by a car or got hurt in a fishing line.

The Bachelor Nation star said that he was going to jump out to see what he could to do help and walk fans through what they should do if they come across a situation like this.

Blake started off by saying, “Because I work in this field and deal with gulls fairly regularly, my truck is equipped with the tools I need. I have a towel, I have gloves, I have plastic bags, and I have a first aid kit. Not that I’m going to treat the animal because I am not qualified to do that, and you shouldn’t do that either. But I have the things I need, aside from a box, to transport the animal to get help.”

While Blake said seagulls are “next to harmless,” he also noted, “Take into account what body part appears to be injured and avoid hurting them more in that area. Limit the amount of stress and human interaction for the animal. And if you are really unsure of what to do, call the appropriate person or organization who can walk you through it.”

Blake wrapped the seagull in a towel, got it safely into his car, and said it was easy to get him settled while wrapped in the towel.

The Bachelor Nation star went on to say that he spoke to a local bird and rehab specialist he knows, and that person told him to take the bird to animal control because they have a vet on staff.

Instead of waiting for animal control, Blake drove the seagull straight there to save time and get it help as quickly as possible.

While waiting to see the vet, Blake shared some tips on what to do if you ever come across a similar situation.

He said, “Ideally, you have a box and limit your contact, and depending on the type of animal, you are not getting that close to them. Every circumstance and scenario is very different. As I know, avian influenza is a thing, especially in waterfowl. I wasn’t too worried about that with this bird based on how the animal was acting. Regardless, always use gloves and a strong disinfectant to clean your hands and the area that the animal was in your vehicle afterwards.”

And while this may seem overwhelming, Blake believes in helping all animals.

The Bachelor Nation star said, “I definitely could’ve left and kept driving after seeing the gull on the side of the road and shrugged it off. But it would’ve messed with me all day if I ignored the situation. Remember, all animals play a role, whether it’s a seagull, a racoon, a possum, a skunk, every animal matters. If you have the opportunity to help out, this only took 45 minutes out of my day. When it comes to who to call, there are lots of rehab centers, but many are overcrowded, so call around until you find one that can take the animal.”

Blake shared that the seagull ended up being okay, and we’re so glad he was able to save the day! And, as Blake said, you can always call for help from an organization like animal control if you see something but don’t have the ability or resources to help out yourself.
